Christmas and Baseball

With the holidays approaching, I find myself in a constant state of cranky. I don’t like it…not at all. —counterintuitive to my nature.  .  So…why? I guess I struggle with the commercialism. The new normal, to me,  reflects a tinny Yuletide filter, rather than the sentimental  gold and silver.  I recently resumed an on-going task  of converting old photo slides to digital images.  Lots of past holiday memories recalling Christmases when my own children were young… and even back to my childhood.  Such nostalgia.  Good feelings. Is it me? Or was Christmas more joyful in times gone by? And then I thought about… Baseball.  Yup…Baseball, as waxed by Terrance Mann in the great film, Field of Dreams, but paraphrased here my me.

Christmas has marked the time. — it’s a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again.

Merry Christmas to all and all in our time.

I recently retired after a 34 year career in public education. I was a teacher, supervisor, and administrator. Essentially, I enjoyed it all. The nonsense surrounding NCLB basically drove me to the edge...a good intention gone terribly wrong. In addition, I'm a founder (along with my late wife, Carolyn) of the Country Gate Playhouse community theatre in Belvidere, New Jersey. In recent years I've dabbled in writing interactive dinner theatre plays. I have also written a play called "Jersey Diner" as well as a youth oriented musical adaptation of "Tom Sawyer". Since "retiring" I'm an adjunct at our local community college. I also serve as a New Jersey school district education consultant.
